AS&E specializes in detection technologies that can uncover dangerous and elusive threats, including explosives, plastic and metal weapons, and radioactive devices, such as dirty bombs and nuclear WMD. AS&E systems also detect commonly smuggled goods, such as drugs and alcohol. These X-ray systems are deployed worldwide at ports and borders, and military and high-threat facilities. Our signature technology - Z Backscatter - gives our systems unparalleled detection capabilities, making it the technology of choice when the highest levels of security are required. Our elite client base includes the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (including U.S. Customs and Border Protection) and the U.S. Department of Defense, among numerous other federal agencies. International customers include Japan Customs (JAPAN), Tokyo Metropolitan Police (Japan), Japan Defence Agency (JAPAN), Her Majesty's Customs & Excise (UK), Hong Kong Customs, the Royal Thai Police (Thailand), New Zealand Customs, and the Port of Sokhna (Egypt). AS&E's line of Mail, Parcel & Baggage (ParcelSearch) systems offers varying tunnel sizes and configurations to fit your specific application and inspection environment. Compact X-ray units screen smaller items, including mail and briefcases; while larger, open-tunnel systems inspect oversized baggage and small cargo. Our systems for Cargo and Vehicles (CargoSearch) - available in mobile, relocatable, and fixed-site configurations - can be customized to meet specific inspection requirements and integrated into existing security operations. CargoSearch systems are ideal for inspecting cars, vans and trucks, as well as palletized cargo, and air and sea cargo containers. AS&E's Radioactive Threat Detection (RTD) technology is an option for some of these systems. AS&E also offers Personnel Screening products (SmartCheck) to find threats and contraband on people - safely and effectively. To help our customers accomplish their security missions, AS&E has built a worldwide Service & Support organization which uses the latest CRM technology to keep our team members in touch, leveraging talents and expertise, and placing them wherever needed, whenever needed. We also provide comprehensive, cost-effective Spare Parts solutions customized to your particular system. AS&E maintains strategically located depots around the globe for rapid parts deployment. Additionally, we offer comprehensive technical training that goes beyond the basics. Our extensive network of Service and Training representatives is available worldwide, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year. |

Z Backscatter Van Drive-By Screening System (Mobile System) |
A breakthrough in X-ray detection technology, AS&E's Z Backscatter Van (ZBV) is a low-cost, extremely maneuverable screening system built into a commercially available delivery van. The ZBV allows for immediate deployment in response to security threats, and its high throughput capability facilitates rapid inspections. The system's unique "drive-by" capability allows one or two operators to conduct X-ray imaging of suspect vehicles and objects while the ZBV drives past. The ZBV can also be operated in stationary mode* by parking the system and producing X-ray images of vehicles as they pass by. Screening can also be accomplished remotely while the system is parked. Remote operation allows scanning to be done safely, even in dangerous environments, while maintaining low-profile operation. The system is unobtrusive, as it maintains the outward appearance of an ordinary van. |
The Z Backscatter Van is used in port and border security, force protection, urban surveillance, and other critical security applications. The system is maneuverable, mobile and affordable. Simply put, the ZBV is faster, more effective, and less expensive than any mobile X-ray screening solution in the marketplace today. The ZBV Reveals Contraband and Threats Undetected by Other Systems: ・ Car and truck bombs ・ Explosives, plastic weapons, and other organic threats ・ Radioactive threats, including nuclear devices and dirty bombs ・ Illegal drugs ・ Stowaways, such as illegal immigrants and terrorists |

AS&E's new OmniView Relocatable Gantry System combines advanced technologies to provide one of the most comprehensive cargo inspection systems available. The OmniView Gantry system is the only multi-view X-ray inspection tool that provides high penetration of dense materials and liquids; discrimination of organics and inorganics; clear, photo-like images that are easy to interpret; and optional Radioactive Threat Detection — all in a compact high-throughput system. There is simply no other detection system that provides these comprehensive capabilities. AS&E's OmniView Gantry inspection System combines high penetration transmission X-rays with Z Backscatter technology to deliver the most reliable means of uncovering contraband and threatening materials in densely loaded cargo containers. The system uses Shaped Energy technology which is both highly effective and safe to operate. The patented method of shaping the energy spectrum to filter out non-essential radiation makes the system very safe for operators and staff, while providing high energy penetration of densely loaded cargo containers and liquids. The technology eliminates the need for costly infrastructure such as an outer building for radiation safety often required with other gantry systems. The Z Backscatter imaging offers multiple views of the cargo under inspection, improving detection, while facilitating interpretation of the X-ray image. The relocatable system can be configured with one, two, or three Z Backscatter X-ray detectors, allowing left, right and top down views of the object under examination. Z Backscatter creates images that highlight low atomic number ("low Z") materials, such as explosives, drugs, alcohol, and tobacco. These and other organics stand out as bright objects in the Z Backscatter images, making them easy to identify in even the most complex X-ray backgrounds. The System's configuration allows for optimal threat and contraband detection while maintaining a compact footprint and one of the smallest radiation exclusion zones in the industry. With the OmniView Gantry System, the X-ray source and detectors move on rails past stationary vehicles and cargo. The system is bi-directional, allowing for high throughput (approximately 2 trucks per scan, 24 trucks per hour). The rail length is variable for increased flexibility and throughput. OmniView's 6 MeV X-rays can penetrate 14 inches (350mm) of steel or over 8.5 feet of oil; yet the system doesn't require heavy shielding or standoff zones. This makes it ideal for security checkpoints at ports, borders and other high threat facilities. With the addition of AS&E's Z Backscatter technology, the system provides multiple view and photo-like images that clearly highlight low-density materials, which often remain hidden in standard transmission X-ray images. This combination of technologies offers improved detection capabilities and more comprehensive views of the cargo being scanned for superior cargo inspection. |
